BISHOP DONAL MURRAY (1918- 1999)

Bishop Donald Joseph MurrayBishop Donal Joseph Murray CSSp was born in Ireland on 11th of February 1918. He was ordained Priest in the Congregation of the Holy Ghost (abbreviated C.S.Sp - Congregatio Sancti Spiritus sub tutela Immaculati Cordis Beatissimae Virginis Mariae), 7th April 1946.

He was concecratted Bishop of Makurdi Diocese, Nigeria on 29th March 1968.  He resigned as Bishop on 2nd June 1989. Died night of the 14th of August, vigil of the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary.

He provided for the needs of the sisters by giving spiritual and financial help. Budgets were made and he gave the difference in cheques. His concern was that the sisters were not to be hungry. He visited them frequently, encouraging them, instructing them and giving them gifts at occasions. There was cordial relationship from the beginning. He loved them with a father’s love and the sisters saw him as their Father Founder. At the occasion of their silver jubilee he wrote to the sisters-

 “It goes without saying since the beginning I have the greatest love and affection for you all. I look on you as my very own children. Even today as I sit here away from you, you are always in my thoughts and certainly I say very special prayers for you everyday. I have a special interest in your development. I rejoice in every new postulant who knocks on your door for admission…”
